I have a MK1 that has sentimental value and I'm slowly improving.

I've been looking for something cheap and tatty to strip for trackdays.

Saw a MK2 but don't think the sills and chassis rails look good. After a second opinion...

And a dodgy patch panel that is rusting around the edges.

I think MX5 rust is like an iceberg - you only get to see about 10% of the horror story. If you got that on to a ramp and had a good look, you'd probably say 'Oh dear' or words to that effect. smile

I'm hoping to view a MK2.5 on Friday. What might help is if you take a screwdriver to check the rust. If it falls to bits when you press on it then it's a decision you need to make if it's worth it or not.

Looks pretty far gone to me- if that's just the outside!

As has been said, they rust from the inside out, so I would give this one a wide berth, personally.

Thanks. Glad there is a consensus. I've already fed the local tinworm population with one mx5 and not something is like to repeat in a hurry.

It was up for strong money as well, it's never nice pointing out that someone's previous pride and joy is a bit crusty. frown

Pm me for details if any help.
