Hi, hoping someone knowledgeable can clear something up for me! I’m currently looking for an MX-5 and was set on a Sport as I want the 6 speed box. Today a friend of a friend has offered me a very clean low mileage 2007 SE at a really good price. All the research I’ve done tells me only the pre facelift Sports had the 6spd box, but this has the 6spd, 17” Alloys, Leather, Bose etc....
We’re these options possible to spec on the SE or is something not right with the car? Any help appreciated!

Is it definitely an SE, or one of the many Limited Editions that Mazda keep on bringing out?

Might be worth checking the VIN; my understanding is that the 9th digit identifies the transmission type.

2: M15M-D (5-Speed Manual)
6: P66M-D (6-Speed Manual)
8: SJ6A-EL (6-Speed Automatic)

The above logic matches my VIN and vehicle spec (Mk3 2.0 Tech Sport, with a 6 speed manual gearbox)

When I was searching for a car I had the reverse scenario where a seller was adamant that he was selling a straight 2.0 Sport Tech with a 5 speed box fitted as standard. No such beast exists and so I walked away.

Thank you for the replies, I’ve done a bit more detective work today and received some detailed pictures. So after running a reg check it’s coming back as a Sport! Upto now I’ve only been talking through a friend and the owner is claiming it’s an SE, but looking like it could be more of a bargain than I first thought! Am going to view at the weekend and hopefully if it’s as good as it looks I wil get it bought. Cheers.

There is no such thing as a Mk3 'SE'.

There were plenty of special editions but none actually called 'SE'.

If its a Mk3, 2.0 with 6 speed box then its a 2.0 Sport (or one of the special editons based on one, e.g. a launch edition or Z Sport. ).

'Sport Tech' is also not a thing until the Mk3.5 facelift.

Sounds like a good buy though!
