Mx5 mk2 convertible roof problem
Discussion
I have owned a 2005 Mx5 convertible for about 5 years and this year the rear glass window became detached at the bottom edge from the roof. I have glued the window back into place but when I try to lower the roof it goes slightly tight and pulls the window out of the bottom seal again. I can see nothing wrong. The roof looks fine everywhere and it is fabric. Does anyone have any ideas why this may be happening. Thanks. Dave

I've not heard of this problem before. I hope you find a solution. Is it an NB (mk2.5) or a mk3? 2005 was the last year of the NB's so assuming it's one of those.
Not sure why its failed, probably an alignment or fitting issue, faulty part or its had some pressure on it when it was hot that's forced it out. The glass screens are bonded from factory so theres not much you can do to sort it really without replacing the hood, so that is your only real option. You cant really repair then and theres no need for it given you can replace them easily, so you're going to need to bite the bullet price wise it'll be £350-600 depending where you go and what roof you want. Yours is probably an original mohair so you'll be looking at the higher end of that if you want an equivalent. There are cheap places but they can be hit and miss, you do get what you pay for. Same with cheaper goods (Robbins etc) that you can buy from various suppliers, they won't last as long as the OEM quality goods but depends whether you're keeping it long term or not. If it's a mk3 (NC) then the same applies with respect to replacing it, although I've never priced one up so couldn't confirm what they should cost.

Thanks guys. It’s a mk2.5 and I have only recently had the problem . I have reglued it twice and it looks to be in the right position. The roof goes tight about one third of the way back and if I push any more it just pulls the window out. It is very odd as nothing has been disturbed or changed in the last few years and it has worked fine for the first 4-5 years. I wondered if the roof has shrunk . Looks like I will be buying another roof.
