Upgrade brakes for mk1

I've wanted better braking on my mk1 so today I've taken delivery of grooved discs and pad kit hopefully getting them fitted soon. Anyone else upgraded to satisfaction?

I never felt the brakes to be lacking at standard power levels, even driven hard on track (albeit on road tyres not stickies). Standard brakes with decent pads and fresh fluid were fine for me.

If yours is a 1.6 you can fit the larger 1.8 discs by simply fitting 1.8 carriers then the bigger discs and pads, calipers stay the same.
Secondhand carriers from the likes of AK Automotive in Riding Mill at sensible money.
Worthwhile adding braided lines, master cylinder brace and use Castrol React Performance Dot4 fluid - works for mine...
PS Brake disc shrouds may need modifying with the larger discs by bending the lip outwards - no sweat courtesy of Mr Mole (grips).
