MX5 ND Gearbox Issues UK
Discussion
There are examples of it, but it's probably a very small proportion of all NDs. I've certainly read of issues though, but seemingly mainly in the US - possibly because they tend to track/Auto-X their MX5s more?
I think that the current ND is allegedly on Revision 5 as far as gearboxes go.

mazda has revised the box a few times.. its either rev 4 or 5 now!
so early ND's have the rev 1 which had issues.
mazda US admitted to it and replaced under warranty not the case in uk.
no idea what it costs but they are known to go.
not massive numbers but still a thing that happens
abarth 124 for e.g. is good still because it uses the old NC 3.5 box which is stronger than the ND/

Hi
Thanks very much for your reply’s.
I have had a new gearbox installed into my partners MX5.
I have to say I am very dissatisfied with the response that we had from the dealership and from Mazda UK.
When the fault was reported to the dealership the car was still under warranty.
I couldn’t get the car booked into the dealership because they didn’t have any time until the car was three days out of warranty.
Eventually we came to a resolution that involved Mazda paying for a percentage of the repair and we paid the rest.
We opted for a new gearbox in the end because the parts required to repair the original gearbox where not in stock and the lead time was excessive.
I have to say I was and am not impressed with the response from Mazda UK.
We were going to purchase a new car this year (2ltr MX5) but this is now looking very very unlikely
