I've had to replace a hose on my mk1. How do I bleed the air out to get the heater to work?

Jack the front up slightly so the radiator cap is the highest point on the engine

Take radiator cap off

Turn the engine on with the heaters on full , it will start to burp air out the radiator cap, when it does add coolant

And at some point as it warms up the thermostat will open and the coolant level in the radiator will suddenly drop, stop it then and top up.

That's all I ever did to refill mine - fill as much as possible, run engine with rad cap off until thermostat opens and level drops, stop, fill up, replace rad cap, test drive and check it when its cooled.
