My mk1 has developed an intermittent fuse blow affects indicators, rev counter , gauges and handbrake warning on and reversing lights . Anyone had this and has discovered a solution?

Yes and no. Mine used to do it in dark, wet conditions. I don't know if that was because something got damp and shorted or if additional loads from wiper and lights were responsible. Rumours at the time were to do with the alternator regulator. Others have found worn bits of harness.

All I can say for sure is that for about 8 years all I've done is hoon about in the summer and it's not happened in all that time. I still keep a few 10amp fuses in the glove compartment but haven't been upside down in the footwell for ages.

Anyone else care to comment?

Update. I was recommended an auto electrician ( the first one charged a lot of money with no conclusion) he soon found a chaffing on the oxygen sensor wire. He fixed it and I'm now driving more comfortably but a new sensor will be fitted.
