jacking/axle stand placement for MX-5 2.5
Discussion
Morning all, I'm planning to have a go at de-rusting and sealing the underside of my 2004 2.5 Arctic today. Want to get it properly up in the air so I can get all the wheels off and see what's what. Got ramps for the front wheels and axle stands for the rears. Does anyone have any 'best practice' advice for the placement of the trolley jack for the rear lift, and for the placement of the axles stands once it's up? Thanks.
Not 100% sure if your Artic has a cross brace tube under the diff (my '03 Sport has) if not then under the diff with a rubber or wood pad under the diff itself.
Stands under the chassis rails just in front of the rear wheels. Give them a tap to make sure they're solid.
I have a set of 4 axle stands 500mm high and when I welded my front chassis, the infamous spot where they go, I placed the front pair just before the spot
where they sweep up beside the front wings. The back pair as stated previously.

Hope you haven't found anything too dreadful! It's maybe a bit late now, but the rails under the body have reinforced sections fore and aft to form jacking points. The rails themselves are flimsy and seem to be more stiffeners for the floor than anything strong. Unfortunately on our car someone had missed the jacking point and crushed part of the rail and the little outrigger affair at the front - an errant tyre fitter I suspect, so that needed fixed too.
