I have a Mk. 1 Eunos with the equivalent of 67,000 miles. The car is used for 6 months of the year and regularily serviced and pampered in every way. The problem I have is living as I do in the Scottish Highlands it is hard to get accurate advice and reliable mechanics. My tappets started tapping away as they do and I had the oil changed for Castrol 10/40 with an original Mazda oil filter. This settled them down for a short time then they started again. I have been advised to have the cylinder head refurbished with new lifters, valve stem guides, valves, etc.I assume this would cure the problem but for how long. A full blown head refurbishment with all the related parts and labour will not be cheap. However if this is a permanent repair then it might be worth it. Can someone please give me constructive advice.

Greg Hay

Try some Wynns Hydraulic Lifter treatment, it always worked for me.

If it's a Eunos it should have the 'proper' oil pressure sensor, IIRC?

What sort of pressures are you getting?

Are you only doing short runs or longer runs, to really get the oil warmed through?

I would just leave it. I did with my 1.8 and it was still going strong 25k later.

The odd Italian tune up helped too...
