1991 Mariner blue Eunos

I picked this up on Sunday. A few questionable mods including an exhaust necessitating ear plugs on the drive home and an already removed sub and amp but she’s solid.
I’m awaiting delivery of my cobalt exhaust to sort that ASBO noise out, and aside from that it’ll be getting fettled a little bit. Having previously owned an NB you forget how great these little cars are!

Very nice sir! Pls keep us updated. I’ve just bought a cheap mk1 and will be looking to fettle and improve over time, so keen to see another owner’s progress.
This weekend sees the horrendously noisy straight through exhaust going in favour of a cobalt one, hopefully selling my “sensible” car this weekend too - a 130i, as I’ve barely looked at it since picking this up...Then the hunt will probably start for suspension- any recommendations?
I've just fitted my 1.8 NA with a set of Meister R Sportive coilovers. They're fixed rate dampers with adjustable ride height, helper springs, and mk2 style top mounts for more rear travel. Compared to the 120k mile OE suspension it's a night-and-day difference. They absorb small bumps and vibrations far better; are firmer for slower hits like cornering loads; and are usefully a little lower than standard. For £500 I'm very impressed.
I debated changing the bushes, but they looked ok once I had everything in bits, and there's no play, squeaks or clunks that shouldn't be there. If time, money and effort hadn't be an option, I'd have renewed them back to OE standard, but the springs and dampers alone have transformed the car. Fitting took me about 6 hours in total. That was about 2 hours for the first rear corner, after soaking every 25 year old bolt in advance in copious quantities of Plus Gas, then the others were progressively quicker. It's definitely DIY-able on axle stands if you have a decent set of sockets and spanners, ideally an impact gun, and a breaker bar. Lots of videos out there; I used the "long bolt" method on the front, and didn't even need spring compressors.
