ND 30th Anniversary
Discussion
Anybody got one on order? I really fancy one, and as much as I know I'll love it I just can't decide if I'll regret selling my M2 for it.
I do think the Mazda will be more fun for more of the time. And I do miss the ability to get the roof down from my previous Mk3.75 NC MX5. The M2 is a proper hooligan but the lower-speed fun of the Mazda really does appeal.
I test drove a new 2.0 a few days ago (not a 30th) and it was great fun... The Recaro/Brembo/Rays combo, not to mention the bonkers colour of the 30th Anniversary, are really tempting me. The interior is fab. Pity that the showroom setting didn't really let the orange paint pop.
Anyway, a few pics I took today:

I like everything apart from the orange. Had a quick nose around an RF today and can't get passed the orange exterior, it's flat orange too so it's not as though it will look anything special in sunlight.
Autocar had an interesting review of it and it made me think about what they suggested, basically you can 99% of what the AE has for less just by specing some extras from the catalogue, you get to chose your own colour too. The only thing you can't replicate are the alloys (BBS alternatives though) the Brembo brakes (maybe aftermarket if you were that fussed) and the AE badges, I think I might be more tempted to go that route. But the the question is would the AE depreciate more slowly?

I understand what you're saying about speccing up a regular model, which may be a fine idea for some people. The 30AE works for me personally, though, because:
1) there aren't any loud/bright colours available on standard order cars
2) fitting good quality, more supportive aftermarket seats would be expensive (I did that on my NC and would have to do it again in an ND)
3) aftermarket wheels equivalent to the lightweight forged Rays on the 30AE would be very expensive (I know they're nothing fancy in fitment/sizing terms)
4) the Brembos are factory fit, avoiding any potential aftermarket fitment/performance/warranty worries
5) I like the extra work done on the interior of the 30AE
6) I really like the Racing Orange paint
For me, the extras on this car seem like a bit of a bargain when you compare them to doing it aftermarket. Granted, I'd pick slightly more aggressive wheels if I were choosing them, but you can't really beat Rays for quality.
All the 30AE needs for me is the OEM Mazda Eibach springs and the exterior aero kit.
As for depreciation, who knows? This particular model might hold up better than the countless other "limited" MX5s.

In a couple of years time when rules have killed these types of cars off They'll level out quite nicely after the initial drop.I think that's a lovely car, love the seats, the kit, the colour.
I guess you'll miss the power of the M2, so you might have to pay BBR a visit.

Now you have me thinking about another alternative, buy an AE and wrap it a colour I like 1) there aren't any loud/bright colours available on standard order cars

I've just been out for a good drive in the M2, and whilst it's rapid and extremely capable, I'm not sure I was having as much fun as I could be. Whilst there's something satisfying about the way it can cover ground extremely quickly, particularly in this dry and sticky weather, I'm just not sure I'm feeling it 100%.I think that's a lovely car, love the seats, the kit, the colour.

If anything, this morning's M2 drive has me leaning further towards an MX5 in all honesty.

Do it!
I've recently got an Abarth 124 having come from a TTRS
The problem with TTRS and M2 is that fun very quickly turns into some serious, licence threatening, speed.

In this heat ,a convertible will always be more fun.
Probably true.SFO said:

Agreed. Comfortable too.Trevor555 said:
Funny you should say that.

When I got the M2 in January, as much as I liked it/do like it, I knew immediately that is was less fun than my previous MX5 (albeit I had tweaked that MX5). I've recently got an Abarth 124 having come from a TTRS

The M2 had the pace I wanted - which is the reason I sold my MX5; I didn't think it was quick enough - but I had lost that lightweight feeling, the agility etc... I kinda miss that. The current 2.0 ND does feel quicker than my NC did, so I'm wondering if it is the best combo of both worlds.

Well I did it. Soft top 30AE with factory aero kit arriving late September.
Now to sell the M2...
Nice choice! I'm sure you will miss the power and sound of the M2, but you can always upgrade the MX if you really feel the need. Now to sell the M2...
I had a 30th RF on order but cancelled due to delays/new car depreciation, sold the NC and bought an ND Sport Recaro - just wanted those seats. My bank balance is happy, but having seen the orange in the flesh, I do doubt myself!

I must admit I was tempted by a used Sport Recaro. I was fairly impressed with the newer engine though, and it just had to be that orange paint. I'm also going to order the OEM Mazda Eibach springs and get it properly aligned, cos I know just how sensitive these cars are to good geometry.

I had a Giulia Quadrifoglio before the MX5 and made the change for that exact reason. Amazing car, completely frustrating as a daily driver because its performance and grip is just too much to have fun in. As I said to my wife, if I pushed it to its limits, I’d end up in court or a coffin. Don’t miss it one bit. Absolutely love the little Mazda.I've recently got an Abarth 124 having come from a TTRS
