I am taking our 2017 ND Arctic MX5 across to France in a few weeks and am then driving down to Southern Spain.

Have everything in order, as far as I can tell, except I am unable to find any information about the headlights and whether or not the car needs to have deflectors fitted to alter the dip-beam pattern.

The manual doesn't give any clues and a Google search was inconclusive.

There are no markings on the lenses to give any clues either.

Does anybody have any definitive advice?

I am concerned about being stopped and spot fines for non-compliance and so any documentary evidence would be appreciated.

As I am not planning on driving at night at any time, I'm tempted just to use some tank-tape on the lenses to give the impression of compliance!

Many thanks.

Spoken to local dealer?

Email to Mazda UK HQ?

Someone must have had the query before at either one of those places??

If they are the LED headlights they don't need to have deflectors.

Dealer wasn't exactly sure and i got through to Mazda Customer Care by telephone and they were very helpful and pleasant.

Sent me a long illustrated e mail confirming that they are indeed a flat beam and therefore no need for deflectors.

Given that there is nothing in the manual or on line, I am now satisfied that I can fight off any over keen French Gendarme keen to penalise a Brit abroad!

Job done.

many thanks.

Have you checked whether any of the areas you will travel through require the Crit-air clean air vignette. I needed one for my ND last year when we travelled down the west coast to La Rochelle. Info available on line.

Thanks Cymro,

I have already been alerted to this and ordered the necessary last week on the internet and received it very quickly.

Very impressive service indeed.

Can't wait to set off now...
