Seriously considering giving a roadster a itch.

Im mainly looking at an NC 2.0 sport tech, wondering what the mpg is like on these giving them some beans aswell?

What are the other generations and engines mpg like giving it some beans aswell.

I used to get about 28mpg out of my 1.6 NB on average over 5 odd years... mixture of driving enthusiasms and a variety of conditions.

Not bad really for something you had to really wring the neck of to get anywhere.

Hmm this is one thing that is bothering me.

I get 31mpg in my current 230bhp 1.6 turbo hot hatch thrashing it everywhere.

1990 Eunos Roadster.

I get an average of 35mpg. I don't drive it much, so no short journeys, but mostly spirited driving and even a little track work.

I would say I probably have a naturally economic driving style. I'm not hard on the brakes.

I just like the irony of your username versus your post.

It is worth bearing in mind that in the early 2000s, 28mpg was considered pretty good... they aren't bad on fuel at all, but you can't really fairly hold the older models to modern standards, especially a "sports" car like an mx5.

I commuted up and down the M5 in it for a couple years (70 miles a day), and it returned 33-35 odd mpg.

Car wise I am very much stuck in the early noughties, so anything 20+ to 30 MPG is pretty good going as far as I'm concerned.... but then I haven't had to commute by car for a long time now.

Put it this way, they aren't so bad on fuel that it would count as a negative when considering a buy..... i imagine the ND new models are considerably more frugal with fuel.

I could get that out of 350-400 bhp 90s Skyline on a cruise.

MX5s are fundamentally not economical. Make one's peace with it or shop elsewhere.

We've got an NC 2.0 Sport that is the wife's daily and she averages about 28, but she only does about 4 miles each way commuting mostly sub 30 mph and normal traffic lights and the roundabouts, so probably averages 15mph. Usually ends up about 260 miles per tank before the light comes on. When she was on maternity leave we swapped cars for almost a year. My commute is 90% motorway and usually nice ~70mph flowing traffic and I was getting between 32 and 38 depending on how hard I drove it. I think 38 is about all it will manage on my commute tho, straight up hill from cold the 20 miles of hilly south wales motorway then a bit through town at the end. Could probably get 40 or so on a run around Norfolk tho.

Used to have an NA, seem to recall 30 mpg or so. The issues are low gearing, old engine design, old injection design, old ignition system design.
Basically, you’re screwed if you want economy.

2004 MX5 18 I got around 28-30mpg, commuting and going for the odd thrash. Current MX5 ND 2.0 Recaro, my daily driver, is averaging 37mpg under the same circumstances. Daily 6 miles each commute general none work plus 'going for a hoon'. I'm happy with that. I'm sure I could make it a lot lower but I enjoy driving it and I don't have to foot to the floor to do so.

I've got the Abarth version.

Wifes driving 38mpg 11 mile commute.

My driving 30mpg a bit of fun.

It'll do almost 50mpg on a steady run.

NC 2.0 Sport Tech checking in...

Currently averaging 34mpg.
Motorway run will do 38mpg more if you are concentrating.
Fun times... I've averaged in the high 20s. Heard of other people going much lower, suspect you would be doing a track day for that though.

Drive it harder. If your sitting at max revs everywhere its about 20mpg.

Yes.

Sorry, I should have explained.

Abarth 124 spider.

Based on the MX5, different body panels and engine, same chassis and interior.

Your abarth has a different engine so how is that valid? with all due respect
