MK3 MX5 v MK3 MR2

I currently have a track spec MK3 MR2 which had the 2ZZ 190bhp engine which blew it's bottom end. It's fully braced, coilovers and was like a go cart.
I've never driven an MX5 but we've been considering one instead of the MR2 for ease of maintenance. Access to the engine etc is tear inducing work on the MR2.
What are the MK3's like for reliability and performance on track? I'd be doing coilovers and bracing, some uprated discs + pads, buckets and harnesses for a start.
