Alarm sensor fitment

My mk1 Monza has an alarm with two remotes . Both remote batteries are good but intermittently the alarm won't switch on. Anyone got any suggestions as where under the bonnet I might find the switch unit? I'm no electrical engineer but wondered if there is something obvious such as loose connection?
