MK 4 Heated seats?

OK possibly a daft question but, I have never had a car with heated seats before, my Recaro Sport has heated seats but as I have had occasion to use them in the last few days I have noticed that only the back (drivers side) heats up and not the base.

Before I call Mazda and potentially look like a prat (if this is how they are supposed to be) does anyone on here have a Mk4 with heated seats and should the base also heat up (seems sensible to me)?

I have the Recaro seats in mine and the back and base heat up.
