Track Day Tyres. Winter
Discussion
Thanks for your feedback guys. Certainly the 888's have a very good reputation and a few years ago when I was hill climbing one of the guys used them and they were awesome. At that time everyone was on list 1A tyres and if you used list 1B there was a 2% penalty. The 888s were so good they were worth it, even on wet days so that was impressive, but they changed the rules and because my car had been supplied with Pirelli Corsa tyres as standard, thats what I had to use. Still with the 2%. On a hot summers day they were pretty good but at either end of the season they were a liability. Some of the top competitors went on to Michelin MPSS and they were very good all round and certainly the best over a whole season. I dropped out of the hill climbs about 5 years ago and things move on. I did a few laps of Blyton recently as a passenger in an MX5 that was on Rainsports and was most impressed, even though it was dry. On a BMW daily driver I have been running Michelin Cross Climates and they are a lovely tyre, but what is good on the road may not work on a track I have found. I am curently on 595s which are OK but I think the new 888+ will replace them. I am still debating wether to get a second set of wheels with Rainsports or Cross Climates on. Hence my original question.
