MX5 MK3 engine match

Hi all.
Own a 2006 1.8l MX5 Mk3 (NC) with an engine that's needs replacing - the bores are scratched and drinking oil! On that note, can anyone out there tell me if there is an engine from another car other than a MX5 MK3, that would be compatible. Am aware that Ford Duratec engines in Mondeos for example , might have been compatible with a MX5 up to MK2.5 (2005) but after that I don't know.
Not getting the old engine re-bored btw.
Any help is appreciated.

The MK2.5 had a Mazda engine the same as the MK1's etc.
The Duratec in 2.0 form is used in the MK3 2.0, changing to one would result in changes to exhaust/ecu clutch flywheel etc etc and cost ££££.
Your best bet is to source another 1.8 engine. or due to the price of cars and spares it is cheaper to just buy another whole car and break either the one you have or the new one, depending on which is best.
