Finally decided to repair a small section of rust in the chassis just behind the front wheelarch - a sort of outrigger affair that fixes against the rail inboard of the sill. Someone before I got the car had jacked it there and bent the metal which had corroded. The damage wasn't too bad to fix though I miss my pit for welding, but it struck me as yet another stupid rust trap. There is a hole near the outer end which I guess can let in water but no way for it to get out again, so my repair has left a small drain hole and I will try to spray some rust preventative inside too.
As something of a non sequitur, I took my daughter up to Perth the other day in heavy rain. The return trip was a bit drier so I had the roof down - much better, but didn't realise the rain was actually quite heavy until nearly home and in traffic. Neither wonder I was getting strange looks!
