Recently, I was watching some guy, working at home, connect his BMW Z 3 (sorry guys) to a laptop, using a diagnostic lead, witch connected to quite a large matrix on the Beamer's engine, near the air cleaner I think. Does the MX 5 have such a port, and if so, is there an equivalent lead, and Windows based software for analysing the Mazda's engine? Mine's an 02 reg 1.8i by the way. Thanks guys

BMW,s had a diagnostic port in the engine bay, used to reset service indicators and such.

A mk2 has an OBD connector under the dash, you need an OBD reader to read it, useful for resetting things and finding faults.

Cheers Bertrum, that's a big help. Tell me though, as I'm very ignorant on these things, what does OBD stand for?

All the best

Something like this and a smartphone are about all you need for simple stuff.
