Hi everyone, first time venturing into this section of PH, have a problem with SWMBO's Mk2.5, drivers window suddenly stop going up & down.

The motor appears to be working as it moves fractionally then stops, wondering if it's something as simple as some grit in the runners (was pressure washed yesterday) and the auto window is registering an obstruction.

Had the door trim off (bloody tar sealant!) and sprayed around with WD in the hope something might dislodge, managed to get the window right up after an hour of pulling on the glass while pressing the button.

Any suggestions and also any recommendations around South Oxfordshire for someone to look at it if I lose my patience.

The cable has probably broken internally. Cheapest/quickest fix is a known good regulator including motor from a breaker, takes about 30 mins to fit first time.

If it's still assisting you putting the window up and down the cable/regulator might be ok. Could be stiff window runners or sticky rubber. The runners need greased occasionally, white silicone grease and you get a spray on lube for the rubber seals which helps the glass slide over them. Had it not been used in a while previous to the washing?

Nope used daily, but she doesn't wash it very often. Managed to pick up a secondhand mechanism today, so going to try first thing in the morning when it's cooler.

Job done, took me an hour or so but all sorted.

One happy SWMBO.
