Hi,

Got a new job, and will be doing 30k miles per year, mainly cruising at 70mph. Wondering what the real world fuel tank range of the 2.2d Mazda3 150ps is in those kind of conditions, does anyone have one they would like to share information on?

My crude estimate, 68mpg quoted combined figure, 80% of this for real world is ~55mpg times the 13 gallon tank is 715mi. Of my 30k a year, 20k will be almost entirely motorway. So I am hoping for 600+ out of a tank. Is this realistic?

Thanks

Currently driving a Mazda3 2.2 diesel 150ps auto and on a run get high 40's low 50's - There is a significant difference by dropping your motorway speed to 67mph from 70mph though as it is definitely more economical there..

I normally get about 450-500 miles from a tank, but I never let it run that low, and the trip computer shows distance to empty, although this isn't actually distance to empty, it's distance to run dry prevention, so there is actually at least a gallon of fuel in the tank when the TC is showing 0 miles...

Thanks for replying. At ~50mpg, and a 13 gallon tank I assume then its got ~3 gallon left when it hits 0 from 500mi for dry prevention. Seems like a lot, but i have never had a diesel so wouldn't know if this is normal.

13 gallons? where are you getting that from? It's a 51 litre tank, so only just over 11 gallons.

Depends what 'gallon' is defined as. I just did a quick google its 13.5 US gallons, but 11 imperial gallons, I don't know which is used for mpg, i assumed it would be US.

Edit: I just looked a bit deeper and you're right, we use imperial in the UK it seems.
