Good Evening,

Man maths is pointing me in the direction of getting a MK3 MX-5 2.0 sport for my new commute (60 miles per day).

I had one for a brief period, and loved it but never pid attention to the MPG.

Can people tell me their real world MPG on these cars? This would greatly help justify my man maths.

Done elsewhere but mine does anywhere from 23MPG wife into work 2.5 miles each way. To 44MPG in Italy at 65MPH with cruise on. Typically during an average year we see 32-34MPG or so.

BBR Super 200

Covered just over 16,000 miles in the last 14 months The worst was 20.4mpg (track day) and the best was 43.2mpg (motorway/65mph/cruise control). Overall average is running at 34.1mpg. My Fuelly page is here: http://www.fuelly.com/car/mazda/mx-5/2011/mac5/551...

38 mpg for me on my 30-mile each way A and B road route. Obviously I wasn't trying hard enough.

I usually get around 28/30 on my commute, 2 miles in town, around 4/5 dual carriageway followed by around 4/5 on a B road and then another mile inside another town. Long runs get over 40mpg. On a hoon I'm still getting around 27/28.
I've got the BBR Super 200 mod plus 0.5mm oversize pistons and a small headskim. I should really get a new mini map done as the headskim and pistons were put in after the BBR mods had been fitted

Two questions if I may, related to this subject.

How do you check your mpg ?

My speedo reads 4mph fast at 40mph. (Compared with SatNav, and roadside curtesy speed signs)
How does this effect my mpg ?

Brim tank, zero trip, when I next refill note fill in litres & miles. Repeat ad infinitum. Mine is based on 2 years of ownership & around 10K miles..

But with reference to the second question:-

If my speedo is wrong then could my trip also be out, and therefore my mpg ?
