Tyres for best grip

Having looked at my tyres this morning, it is time for some new ones. Plenty of tread left but old and perished.

For various reasons I want to stick with the existing size, 185/60-14.

What brand will give best grip?

Its an NA / mk1, if that makes any difference to the answer.

I will shortly be putting Uniroyal Rainsport 3s on my 1.6. Very highly recommended by my friend.

I have those on one of my other cars, and I do like them.

In that size you can only get the rainexpert 3. I assume this is similar?

Yes you are right, I hadn't noticed. I believe they are just as good however.
