Mouldy interior and boot!!
Discussion
Hi guys,
So over the winter my mk1 has gained a substantial amount of mould pretty much everywhere! On the soft top, all over the seats, my steering wheel and in the boot! I'm aware soft tops leak and create mould but this is a ridiculous amount! Has anyone had any issues with this amount of mould and how do I go about making sure my boot is sealed enough to stop leaks?

Even if they don't leak there's always going to be condensation. Stick a tray of rice on the passenger seat to soak up stray moisture. Your boot seal or any of the rubbers could be perished, might need replaced. Try a thin smear of Vaseline (or white silicone grease) on all the rubber sealing surfaces, boot, windows, front roof seal. This can help old tired rubber seal better.
Is it stored outside? Is the water draining off properly? Blocked drain holes will allow the cills to fill with water and make the inside of the car damp. Rock the car and listen for sloshing (not from the petrol tank). Another possibility is the drains off the roof rain rail at the back. When blocked these can over flow and let water into the boot or the carpet down the back of the seats. Try rodding them out. For roof drains curtain rod is a good thing to poke out any old leaves and debris. For the cill drains I used a straightened paperclip poked up from underneath last time.

Covers on their own dont do a great job of keeping the mould at bay. I used to put my dehumidifiier in the car and run it full blast all day (on a dry day) to get it nice and dry inside before putting the cover on. This seemed to really slow down the mold, just the cover alone it still got pretty damp from condensation.
