Sticky manual windows mk 1

The manual windows on my mk1 have become hard to wind up and down . I've tried spray silicone but it isn't making much difference. Anyone got any experience on another way to improve the situation?

did you spray the rubber channels up the quarterlights as well as the winding mechanism?
worked for me on the slow leccy windows
