MX-5 mk1 NA 1.8 Ignition Coil Pack
Discussion
Has anybody replaced the coil pack steel bracket lower rubber mount?
I can't work out how to remove the steel inserts from the grommet so I can get the grommet out to put it in the new bracket.
I've replaced the coil pack but it's only on with the 2 side bolts, I'd prefer to have all 3 bolts in.
Thanks guys.

After researching, to omit it out seems a mistake - but what a little bd it is to replace.
Now - the question I want to ask:
If one happened to drop a 12mm spanner whilst i n the last half turn of fitting, and heard it fall - but not far..... where would it land?
I have searched EVERYWHERE for it.
Taken the skid plate thing off, jacked it right up to get my hand on top of the gearbox, seeked all around it - but can not for the life of me find the missing spanner.

Try a magnet?
Also have you looked in the plastic stone guard underneath?
Mines has a foam liner so you can't hear something falling on it or rattling about on it.
If I'm working on an area where something would be difficult to recover if I dropped it I tie it on to my wrist with a length of string or I pack the area underneath with rags so it can't fall down inside

Yes ^^ that dawned on me about 10minutes in to searching.... Honestly I must have burnt an hour loking for this - still unable to fathom it out. a brighter LED torch may help... but im going insane. Also have you looked in the plastic stone guard underneath?

I''ve taken the plastic stone guard off. It wasn't in there, its not as far as I can tell on top of the gearbox.
It did not sound like if fell far.
I was spannering from the N/S.
Mystery spanner !
An option is to drive it down the bumpy track outside and see if it falls down, but a) not very scientific b) it might not, c) if it falls in to something and jams for example the slave cylinder ...... ??
If it didn't fall far it has to still be near the top.
Your real problem is that it's extremely well camouflaged to hid beside all the fittings at the back of the engine.
Keep looking, expect to find it, take your time & scrutinise every little area & eventually appear, treat it like a puzzle like a word search or spot the difference.
Unless of course it's already fallen out when you were driving?

I kinda have done a lot of the above - except drive it... Its on axle stands at the front - raised even higher so I can get right under the middle / hand up and over the gearbox.
Of course I could take the coil pack out again to find some room to look......
if I can find a spare 12mm spanner somewhere ! (and tied to my hand)
In reality I maybe should - as when I took the plastic shield off, I found the metal insert boss in the third bolt bush had slide out during the installation.
Bugger
