Replaced fuel sender but gauge reads full when not full
Discussion
So my MX5 has had a problem since it awoke from hibernation at the end of last winter, the fuel gauge reads full + a little bit more even when I know I've only got about half a tank.
After much internet research I decided to replace the fuel sender, this has not fixed the issue or changed any behaviour So given the symptoms I described what is the next logical step? All the better if suggestions come with a step by step guide so I can be sure I'm doing things correctly.
Oh by the way the guage has occasionally moved but always returns to the very full location. Grateful for any help.

Is the fuel gauge the only thing not working? If the rev counter and the indicators are also out then it's a 10 amp fuse in the drivers footwell. If it's just the fuel gauge then possibly no power to it. Don't know if that would be a broken wire or loose connector. What you describe is what happens to mine when I occasionally blow that fuse with the added bonus of no rev counter or indicators.

It's just the gauge in my case, rev counter etc is fine, I will check the connector and then wiring. Thanks for your help appreciate your insight.Edited by Oldandslow on Sunday 25th June 13:27
