Fussy Mk2 CD player

Just bought a MK2

CD player wont take CDRs and only seems to play pristine CDS
Anything even slightly scrathced it rejects - plays fine in my DJ players, laptops, Saab etc

Is there anything I can do or is it new head unit time

Have to tried a cleaning disc in the CD player?
