So had to move away for work and have no room for my mx5, it's been sat in a garage under a cover for eight months without being touched and the MOT has run out.

Any top tips on getting it back to life ? I'm assuming I can drive it to the mot station to get it retested.

Mine was the same. I hadn't touched it since putting it away at the end of last summer. Surprisingly, after giving the battery a charge, it fired straight up. The brakes were a little sticky, but after half a mile or so they sorted themselves out.

As long as your'e insured, I believe you can drive it to the MOT station you're booked into.

Get a mobile mechanic to give the car a service (before driving to the MOT) if you're worried about the oily bits?

Thanks Justinio, reassuring to hear.

I'd just replaced the rad before tucking her up and the oil has only 500miles on it, so fairly confident about the oily bits, it will be getting a service before MOT.

Mine wasn't started for 13 months.

I put a fresh battery on it, removed the HT leads and cranked it for a short while to get some oil circulating. Popped the leads back on and it fired instantly.

It was a bit tappy for a while, but was fine after a short run.

You can drive it to a pre booked MOT, but it must be insured.
