Google slow windows as this is a common problem. Best to clean then relubricate mechanism and channels as the ancient grease will be mucky and sticky so new grease will only be a temp fix
This, it's mostly a problem for electric windows but when the grease gets very stiff, the manual ones stick to. It's a pretty simple fix though, door panel off, clean off old grease, renew grease. I use white Lithium grease from a spray can with a directional nozzle.
Had a similar problem on my Mk1 with manual handles, I tried greasing them as per the instructions above but it didn't really help so I ended up buying and fitting a new mechanism from mx5parts to the passenger side. Getting the door card off is pretty easy if you're careful, also be careful of the moisture barrier as it has some horrible black sticky glue that gets everywhere!
