Hi Chaps, have transplanted a healthy engine and gearbox from a terminally rusty 1993 MX5 1.6 into my eunos over the last few weekends.

Finally in, and running, and I'm over the moon because I've never attempted anything more taxing than a head gasket change so very pleased with my efforts.

Only drove the donor car half a mile and it seemed fine, now the engine and 'box are in my eunos I seem to have terrible transmission whine. Mainly under light acceleration, not on over run, and mainly in 1st, 3rd and 5th.

I'm assuming either the box was whiney in the donor car and I didn't notice in the short test drive, or I've somehow managed to break something fitting it into the new car. All gears are selectable and there doesn't seem to be any more lash than normal in the drivetrain.

Also, clutch release bearing is now rattling like mad, coincidence or related? Is it low on oil? Couldn't get the weird square fill plug off to even attempt adding any more gearbox oil.

Any advice or pointers greatfully received, this is my 6th mk1 and I've always thought the boxes quite robust.

Luckily I have a spare gearbox in the boot of said eunos, but obviously would rather live with the whine than undertake any more major surgery.
