Our 99 Mk2 has been sitting on the drive, SORN, battery disconnected.

She's not starting, although the engine is turning over. It may be that the battery needs a bit more juice, so it's on charge. However, I can't hear the fuel pump priming so I'm wondering if the fuse/relay has gone.

But I can't remember where the thing is though!

Help!

Have you got an immobiliser? Sometimes when I disconnect my battery and reconnect it doesn't want to play. Disconnecting a reconnecting again solves it.

It's not that - at least I've tried disconnecting several times....

A quick Google found this relating to the relay, though this is for an American car:

"It is located on the right side of the steering column, sort-of above the gas pedal. There are 2 or 3 other relay next to it. I can't recall it's colour, but I know it the one with the fat Light Green wire running to it."

I saw that! And crawled in the footwells on both sides. None the wiser frown

But that is probably just my stupidity....

My workshop manual has the following to test:

Open the diagnostic port and connect F/P to GND using an insulated jumper wire. This will bypass the relay.

Turn the ignition on.

Remove the filler cap and listen for a faint high pitched whine. If you can hear it, try starting the engine.
