I have a mk3 2lt and a mk1 eunos s-ltd.

The eunos was bought last year as a project to sell on this spring but I've come to love it. It's a really nice example with no rust and it's one of the rare japanese limited editions so is appreciating.

I've owned the mk3 for 3 years and it's in excellent condition and has been utterly reliable in that time. It's quite a lot quicker than the eunos and way more refined with a few subtle modifications.

Unfortunately I can't keep both and one has to go but which one?

The MK1 of course , not only is it the best , but there are millions of mk3s around and they'll just get cheaper, whereas rust-free mk1s are getting pretty rare.

And of course the mk1 has pop-up headlights, which are the best thing on cars ever and should be compulsory.

Sell the mk3 and then buy a turbo kit for the mk1 smile

S-Ltd all day long. I have owned an R-Ltd and a 3.5RC, both cars were excellent, but Mk1s are getting rare now and have more character.

What they said. If you sell the Mk3 and regret it, you can also pick up another one easily.

This is what I’m thinking. Another couple of years and the value of the s-ltd will probably overtake the mk3. Its not mint, but it wouldn’t take a lot to get it there.

It was the wife that encouraged me to get the mk1 but solely for the purpose of trying to make a few quid on it. I don’t think she would be to amused if I announced I was keeping the mk1 and selling the mk3 as its obviously depreciated in the time I’ve owned it.

I could try and convince her that it may be worth hanging onto it for a while longer as an investment or just deliberately overprice it so it doesn’t sell so then I get to keep both;)

Keep the MK1. I see these appreciating in the same way as MK1 Escorts, and proper Minis.

So if you have a good one, and a garage to keep it in. It's definitely the one to keep.

I think I've cracked it. I mentioned values appreciating over the coming years and she said maybe hang onto it for a few years. I could keep both but I'm getting a bit bored with the mk3 so may sell that and reinvest some of the money into the s-ltd. I discovered it has a little rust on one side when I stuck a borescope in through the seatbelt towers when fitting a new roof at the weekend. Also could do with a complete new exhaust system and the drivers seat has seen better days.

Keep the one you enjoy driving the most, once you start viewing something as an investment you stop enjoying driving it and worry about putting miles on it in case it devalues it

I've had 4 , 2x Mk1 2x Mk3 with my latest being a Mk3 BBR200 , 200bhp in a Mk3 MX5 is a laugh while being wife friendly with its refinement

As above, keep the one you use. If you are doing 15k miles a year in all weathers, keep the newer one. If it's high days and holidays and summer use, keep the Mk1. You clearly have a garage to keep it from deteriorating too quickly.

I’m keeping both for now. I taxed the mk1 at the beginning of April and forgot just how much fun it was to drive despite it being unrefined and relatively slow. I don’t think I could part with it now so if one does end up going it will be the mk3.

I’m also convinced mk1 values are on the rise as I sold a v special over the weekend and made close on a 60% profit over what I paid for it 6 months ago.
