mk2.5 S-VT Fuji diff rattling
Discussion
Hey folks
So I have had my mk2.5 a few weeks, always noticed a very slight rattling/scrapping sound coming from the rear of the car whilst under acceleration, it sounds very much like a binding brake caliper but I know that is not the case. I put a hard top on today which actually made the noise more pronounced, I think because it mutes the exhaust slightly the noise coming through the transmission tunnel is a little more noticable.
Anywho, should I be worried? I know a lot of gearboxes and diffs make odd noises during operation.
The noise is very occasionally present on overrun and deceleration, is pronounced under acceleration, and very noticible under light acceleration whilst lugging the engine somewhat (pulling from ~2krpm at 35mph in 6th).
If it is bksed what is the bill likely to be? I know you get new clutch packs for these diffs, but no nothing of how much they cost or how difficult they are to fit, LSD really is new terratory for me as my entire car history prior to my MX5 have been warm/hot hatches with open diffed FWD.
Car is a late 2004 model with 100k miles.

I had the same noise on my 2003 S-VT from the Fuji diff - when you change the oil, if any bits of metal that look like this come out, it's knackered - you can get new clutch packs but I went straight to the TorSen LSD with the same final drive ratio. No issues with it yet!

Out of curiosity how much did you pay for your torsen? Havn't had a chance to have a look at my diff yet (it's rained constantly pretty much all month here in Glasgow & I have no garage), but just want a general idea of costs if it needs done. -snip-
