So I have a problem, I have a mk1 1.6 and my fuel gauge is currently stuck pointing at full, the thing is I have a track day coming up and it will be here before I can deal with the guage issue. I want to try and figure out how many MPG I can realistically hope for and then figure out my range.

Anyone have any figures to hand?

Are you sure the gauge is stuck? They don't return to zero with the ignition off so they always show fuel level.

If the gauge really is stuck, don't go on track. You really don't want to be running out of fuel half way around a lap. You wouldn't be popular with the organisers or with the other paying customers as they would have to red-flag the session to tow you off of the track wasting everyones time.

Alternatively, take a 20L fuel can with you and make sure the tank is full every time you go out. Do not take a risk with running out of fuel.

With my mk1 I averaged somewhere around 12mpg.
Personally even with a working fuel gauge I topped up half way though the morning, at lunch and mid afternoon with 20l cans. Managed to do £70 of fuel (7years ago) and 190miles at Donington smile

when racing these, we assume approximately 1-litre per 2-minutes of running depending on the circuit and conditions.
