Just a FYI really, but Tesco are selling engine oil pretty cheaply at the moment in store.

I got a couple of 2 Ltr bottles today for my MK 2.5 for £6 each.

This is Castrol GTX 10W-40 semi-synthetic (ACAE A3/B4), which is what the Haynes manual lists for all Mk 1 and 2 MX-5s

You'll need 3.7 Ltrs of oil for 1.6 litre engines and 3.8 Ltrs of oil for 1.8 Ltr engines apparently.

They've also got 5W-30 in 2 litre bottles for £9 each. That's Castrol Magnatec fully-synthetic. I think the MK3 uses this, but then so do a lot of cars. I got some for my Dad's Corsa. There's a couple of varieties, so best jot down what you need before you go and check.

For a Mk2.5 1.8 VVT engine you really need full synthetic. You will get away with 10w-40 semi but full synthetic is recommended and keeps the engines cleaner & quieter for longer. I always use Mobil 1 0w-40.
