I'm 18 and I want too purchase an MX5 and looking at MK2s. I have been driving 6 months and want to get a car I've desperately wanted for a while. Obviously the insurance is insane even with low miles and parents on there etc. i have been looking into classic car insurance as most of the MK2s and MK1s are classed as classics. A lot of people are saying give up and wait but i am determined too get one. Any suggestions???

nice idea on the classic policy but most if not all will restrict mileage and will not offer any sort of no claims bonus. try some of the off beat insurers from the pages of the sportscar magazines, you may get lucky.

A classic insurance policy might be your best bet, depending on how many miles you do.

I was quoted £89 for the year on a 1994 eunos worth £2000. (3000 miles, 26, 1 years no claims)

Footman James. Not as far as I'm aware, some of the extras (£60 covers a track day) had age limits.

Footman james now only offer to 25+ unfortunately as I tried them, I ended up going with Adrian Flux for 715 21 3 years ncb. I guess it's just shopping around but I tried several classic car policies but none of them will touch me under 25.

Take no notice of flat earth society members. I suspect A Flux are you best chance.

Let me know if you get anywhere as my son would love to be able to drive our MX5 on the road rather than the current track days only.
