After some advice, the sports twin and single exit exhausts, are they too loud for track days? What DB's and which makes to avoid or choose. Thanks in advance.

I can't comment on the track day angle, but I put an MX5 parts single exit stainless exhaust on our mk1 1.8, and it's a lovely bit of kit. Fitting was a doddle (ish -on axle stands!), and it has a lovely raspy sound, but not too loud. Certainly louder than standard, but then it omits the central resonator/silencer box. I'm sure it would be fine on most track days, especially with the cat still in place. They have frequent special offers; I ended up paying something like £180 including new rubber mounts and copper nuts for the catalytic converter, which is a steal considering the quality.

No MX5 will fail a db test just from having a sport back box. Even if you removed all the baffles from the box it would likely be fine. Mine with a 2.5" Sport cat & mid-pipe (Larini) and 3" dual exit rear box (Racing Beat) never got anywhere near any limits, something like 93db.

My last day at bedford i was at 89db, thats superchraged with a cat in and the cobalt backbox and mid-pipe. Flew through. He even took the mick and said i needed to try harder biggrin

A standard v8 m3 is 89db for comparison.

I used to have an IL motorsports 4-2-1 manifold, silenced decat and IL Motorsports cat-back on my 1.8 MK1. Did Oulton Park (105db) a few times with no issues whatsoever. They never gave me an actual figure though annoyingly.

Thanks for the replies, the twin tail rear box on the car is extremely noisy, the packing must be missing. So I think I'll replace it with the colbalt twin tail system then. I think the existing system is fubar. Getting it ready for a track day at Brands on Friday, roll on spring!
