Hello
I took the battery out to charge it
There was about an inch of water in the battery well / compartment
The rest of the boot is perfectly dry
Any ideas?
Thanks

Most likely culprit is the aerial seal.

I have the same problem, but the aerial is on the other wing ??

Tail lights or boot seal

As above. If aerial is the other side then check the rear light seals.

Thanks. I've looked at the rubber boot seal. It looks to be in very good condition. No splits. Not perished. Still springy. I also looked on line for rear light seals / gaskets, but I can only find a rear light gasket for a mk1 mx5. I'm sure I'm doing something silly in my search. Any pointers?

This is a bit of a random thought, but could condensation collect on the battery and then run down into the well?

Have you checked that it is definitely water?

Yes, it's water. There's a small trickle on the raised part of the boot structure that separates the battery well from the spare wheel well, which suggests that water is coming in from the offside rear lights or a fault in the boot seal that' coincidentally close to the offside rear lights.
But who knows?
