hi guys just bought a 1994 mazda mx5 mk1 in laguna blue from my dad and im looking to get it insured.

the car has slightly lowered suspension and aftermarket alloys

im currenty 21 been driving for 1 year 5 months with no ncb because i was named driver for the first year.

the lowest insurance i can seem to get with my postcode is around £6000 which is completely daft is there anything i should be doing to reduce it?

Try ringing some of the club sponsored insurance companies. I use footman James and they have a big discount for being a member of mx5oc.
But I am old enough to be your dad!

Have you ran a quote through with the car as standard for comparison?

Relatively simple modifications so may be worthwhile returning the car back to standard.

I had mine insured with Admiral at 21 for £700, it was a 1996 1.8 Eunos VR Limited. That's with me having a full write-off two years earlier too!

When I tried adding mods it put the premium up exponentially so definitely worth trying it without those

Yeah I can get the car insured at my parents house for £1800 but my address is nearly £4000 more

So far the mods don't seem to be making a huge difference and insuring it at my parents house would mean I can't exactly use the car as my daily driver I don't understand how others are so cheap
