I might take on my sons 1997 mk1. My insurance company ( Admiral) I approached as my zed4 is with them want £400+ to add the Mazda . I'm 66 with full N c b . That's very uneconomic . Any recommendations .?

Why not put it on a classic car policy, if its gonna be a second car? Most probably gonna be a lot cheaper...

I'm 28 and insure my late 97 Mk1 on a classic policy for less than £200 a year. Limited to 5k a year, but it's just a weekend car. Give Footman James a try.

I've had my mk1 on a classic policy for a few years now via Performance Direct , no NCB , IIRC 5000 miles per year , various mods declared and I think it's about £150 per year or close to. I used Footman James for a few years before and they were always very helpful too.

Try RH. 1997 1.8 mk1, many mods, all declared, 5k miles, breakdown cover, <£200.

Picking up a mk1 v-spec tomorrow so gave footman james a call about temporary insurance to get it home. They said I could add the car to the s-ltd policy. So a year's insurance has cost me an additional £14 plus a £25 admin charge.smile
