Went to have a look at a v spec 1.8 today. Overall it was a nice car, everything worked bar the ac, interior was good with no knackered seats and the wood bits were great. Mohair roof and glass window fitted, bbs alloys and 81k on the clock with new mot and no advisories. The bad bits were minor lacquer peel on the bonnet and wing a few minor battle scars and it has had welding to one cill and a patch on a chassis leg. The young chap did it himself and knows his cars as he built his own sprint car which was also in the garage, a fisher fury type thing. He's asking £1200 for it, is this about right

Sounds fair. It's hard to know the difference between 1k worth and a bit more without seeing the thing in the flesh. A pair of tyres is £100 after all. If it looks like 1200 to you then it probably is 1200 worth. Will the guy take less?who knows?

Have you driven it ? checked everything over ? (apologies if teaching you to suck eggs)

If you are willing to pay 1200 then pay 1200 , things are only worth what someone is willing to pay. If you fancy a haggle then haggle, as long as you do it face to face and with good humour and pay a the price you want then you will walk away happy.

Actually, it is for what it is so I've bought it. It's pretty clean throughout but I'll give it a proper detail when I get it. The centre caps are missing from the bbs wheels but ill live with that as The cost to replace them new is eyewatering

That's a lot of sports car for £1200. I think you'll enjoy that.
