My son bought a mk1 1997 a year ago and he has spent quite a bit on it as is expected . It needs some cosmetics which a friend of mine could help me with . It's a case of if he decides he doesn't use it as much as was anticipated and therefore wants to sell do I add it to our two car home and have it for occasional use ,I e future clasdic albeit not likely to rocket In value .
Thoughts and experiences please ?

I've wanted an MX5 for a while. I bought one last year, a roughish Mk2 at well under £1k. 11 months on, a couple of new tyres on board and a new MoT, it's been great fun. Only 2k miles or so as a result of working away, but no regrets.

If you want it, go for it. They are very cheap to buy and run, as others say Mk2s are disposable fun - use them until the chassis goes rotten and then get rid. Mk1s are worth hanging on to, as you say as a junior classic that won't break the bank or make you a fortune. Just like MGBs, Spitfires, and the like were 25 years ago.

I love my Mk1, so I'd say go for it.
