The piston rings are going/gone on my engine so I have bought a second hand one which Im going to get rebuilt whilst I smoke around in the dying engine for the time being. If you were to get an engine built what parts would you look at doing?

My initial thinking was as follows
forged rods and pistons
uprated pulleys
uprated oil pump
duel feed fuel rail

Obviously the skies the limit with this, I'm not looking for huge figures possibly around the 240/250 mark, so any advice would be appreciated, both on parts to get and suppliers

nb I have a freshly rebuilt turbo fitted within the last month as that had started smoking

I'm fairly sure the standard engines take up to 250bhp quite easily. So not really worth going with forged internals etc if that's the power you're after. I'd rather spend the money on a better chassis setup.

yup, 250 isn't unreasonable to expect of a Stock engine. Remember it was originally in the turbo-charged Mazda 323, so takes FI comfortably.

If you're doing the rings, it's probably a good idea to effectively 'recondition' the engine with stock components and replace the seals and bearings, and check tolerances. That'll give you a far more robust engine than one with uprated conrods, for example, but worn components elsewhere
