Hi
Just bought a 2002 1.6, there is a small amount of bubbling on the driver side rear arch, does anyone have any suggestions on what I should do to slow down or stop the rot?

You can rub it back, put rust treatment and paint it to slow it down, but in my experience it will be back in 3 months. The rust has got between the seams of the arch and quarter panel so the only way to stop it is cut it all out and put new metal in.

I would be concerned about the state of the sills if the arches look like that.

scrape it off and clean it up , then prime paint will slow it

get some cavity wax inside so it trickles down into where the panels meet

Hi
Sorry but this kind of work is new to me, just looking on the net for cavity wax, Dinitrol 3125 seems to come up a lot, is there any point spraying this on the insides unless i scrape the rust off first?, where do i spray to try and get it inside?
For the other arches where i dont see any damage is it worth using Dinitrol 4941 black wax?, if so whats best, just take the wheels off, give the insides a good clean with something and then spray over the joints?
Thanks
Paul

For the love of god before you do anything get it to a mx5 specialist near to you wherever that be and get them to check the underneath specially the front chassis rails for condition before you do any work at all.

I wouldn't wait any longer. Rust in the arch/sills starts from the inside and works out. What you see on the surface is usually much worse underneath.

Given that Mk2's rot for fun anyway I would be going to see a specialist ASAP. As mentioned earlier if you have bubbling in the arch your chassis rails will likely be suffering.

As per post above. That already is ready to cut out and replace. And please check the rest of the car properly first, it needs to be on ramps / stands to see in enough for a proper check.

As regarding "slowing the rust down, running back etc" what would be a recommended / tried / tested rust treatment ?
