Hi Guys,

For those of you not aware (which will be the vast majority of you), I recently started a discussion regarding which fast road/track car to purchase within a 5k budget which had to include both purchasing the car and ensuring it was sufficiently set up and safe to be used frequently on road and infrequently on track. Much discussion was had regarding the merits of the Clio 172 Cup and the Honda Civic Type R, having early on ruled out the MX5 for the simple reason that I had already owned 2 (NB 1.8iS and NC Sportech) so fancied something different.

However, low and behold last Monday I purchase a mk2.5 2003 MX5 1.8. Its silver, has a few chav'ish modifications such as a blue tinged exhaust tip and some heavily kerbed wheels but the arches and sills are in tip top condition, its passed its last 2 MOT with no advisories and was owned by a foreign exchange student who already held a doctorate and is studying bio-mechanical engineering. As such the chap had looked after the car mechanically with no expense spared, had kept his own log of all parts purchased, even down to manually working out his MPG every month and the cost of petrol! This therefore backed up the last 2 years clean MOT's.

So, having now owned the car for 9 days, and being quite a big MX5 nut, I already had a list of parts and it just came down to ordering them. So far I have received the full Koni/H&R suspension, K&N Typhoon intake system and 5Race structural roll bar. I have also ordered my steering wheel, steering wheel boss, horn, seats, seat runners and wheels (15x8 et25) however as these parts are coming from either Europe or America they are going to take a couple of weeks to come through.

Im now doing a video build diary on youtube and I thought some of you may be interested. Its no Chris Harris but hopefully will be interesting or potentially useful for some of you. Heres the links for the first two episodes, episode one is just an intro to the car and the condition I bought it in, episode 2 is fitting the K&N Typhoon kit. Hopefully as it goes on I'll get more comfortable in front of the camera, but at the moment its very strange... if you check out my other videos for McLaren P1 and stuff then you'll see what I do behind the camera...
