Thinking about buying a replacement roof.

What should I look out for (different quality of mohair etc), and is it a job I can do myself? I'm ok with a spanner, but is it a job that doesn't need specialist tools and is it a fiddly job?

Cheers!

Shaw,

Many thanks mate. I did look, not closely enough it seems! 👍

On a further note, what height should the rear ride at? I got the rear springs replaced, but this seems too high. I can get my balled fist in there quite easily.

Rear ride height looks high but if using std springs and shocks not unusual. Might also settle a little with time.

Roof replacement is certainly something you can do yourself, not especially complicated, a bit fiddly and it takes time. Did mine over a couple of days with plenty of tea breaks and not really working too hard or long. I only did it because there were no specialist type fitters near me and I wanted to try it. No special tools required except maybe a pop rivet gun. General feeling is that the difference between what a good fitter can supply and fit a roof for and what you can buy a hood for yourself is not really worth the whole day it takes to do your first ever roof. Plus the risk of messing it up.

I would look for a Mazda mohair roof on frame from a late Mk2.5 car. It takes about 2 hours to swap over first time and you can sell the bits off your old frame.

Your ride height does look rather high.

On ANOther forum it's suggested std ride height for a Mk1 Eunos is Front 340mm, Rear 360mm rear.
That's measured from the hub centre to the highest point of the wheel-arch vertically from the hub & assuming your arches haven't been rolled or damaged.
HTH.
Cheers, Pewe.

Thanks, everyone. I will check that ride height. The arse end is twitchy in the wet (more so than I think it should be).

I've found a place to fit the hood, It'll be worth it get someone who knows what they're doing.

Cheers,

Al.

I couldn't agree more, had mine replaced by him earlier this year for £290, absolute bargain for what is a top quality product.

(Only downside is that he's in Wales!)
