New MX5 windows when hood is lowered
Discussion
Hi all; looking for a bit of advice. My girlfriend has just bought a new MX5. Very nice it is too!
She loves it apart from one thing - when she puts the hood up at the end of a journey, the windows drop but do not go up again afterwards. Annoying as she has turned the engine off and has to restart to raise the window.
Is there some setting that she has got wrong or is this just the way they work?
1st world problem I know...

If I remember correctly (it's been a long winter), on my Boxster the windows drop as you start to put the hood up, and only raise again once the manual clip has been engaged. Does the MX have a manual clip that you need to engage/disengage? If not then I'd a) read the manual to see what it should do and b) if a) doesn't resolve it, visit the dealer to see if it's a genuine problem
There a time window but not sure how big it is. Switch off, close roof, close windows.
It's probably around 30 seconds, and I'm sure it'll be in the manual somewhere.
Edit - just checked manual, it's 40s, unless you open a door in which case they won't work.

I've had the same car for 2 years and I regularly forget to raise the windows before turning the ignition off. You don't have to start the engine - just turn the key to position '2'.It's a pain, but the windows drop for a good reason.
If I don't either drop the windows or open the doors I can't latch my roof shut. The seals over the doors stop it. Do your windows leak at the door glass seal?
I was told when I bought my first 5 new from the dealer (Newbury Mazda who were an MX5 specialist dealer at the time) to always open the doors before latching the roof. I don't always follow that advice but always at least drop the windows.

I probably didn't make it clear.
My GF's cards the new MX5. Only been out a short while.
Someone above said hit the start button twice and it will work.
She loves that! Thanks for the tip
A better tip is switch off, close the roof then shut the windows, all within 40s.My GF's cards the new MX5. Only been out a short while.

My windows don't leak and I can close the roof with the doors closed and the windows up, though it takes a little effort. I'll try it with the doors open next time and see if it's a bit easier though.
