Looking to get another MX5 for the summer. It will be for fast road use and maybe a little sprinting but I can't seem to find a suspension setup I am happy with. I have experienced most of the standard offerings - Meister/Gaz/Tein/Spax etc and found them all to be pretty poor on you typical british B road.

I can't seem to find any current info on P5 Sportdrive/Puredrive? Anyone know if they are still in business?

Are the Ohilins really worth the money or just to firm for road use?

Any other suggestions?

Thanks

Interesting that you don't rate the meisters. I've been in a couple of cars with them fitted and they felt great on the road. Maybe the dampening was turned right up? 14" wheels help massively with the road manners too. Plus ballon tyres like quality on a mk1.

The P5 kit was actually actually manufactured by Protech, although P5 have apparently disappeared Blink Motorsport have taken them on and done some further development work on them, they are due to release them in the next 2-3 months and will definitely be worth waiting for!

Miesters are considered the best for road use. Ohlins are probably epic but the cost s more than most MX5s are worth.

Also interested to know what you found poor about the Meister and the Gaz (which I run) were.

What model were they fitted to, and what was the setup?
And what is your frame of reference?

T1Rs are also considered to be a brilliant tyre by some.

Lol, that's a fair point. Lets say for under £1k they are considered the best amongst most people. Most of the racers use them although use Gaz on both my race cars.

I found them all to firm. Lotus Evora style road manners is what I'm looking for. Budget not as much of a restriction just looking to see what can be achieved. Blink option sounds interesting. Thanks

You are not going to get Lotus Evora road manners from any MX5 setup. The chassis isn't stiff enough.
The Evora is a coupe with a very stiff chassis which means they can fit suspension that doesn't have the compromises an MX5 has to put up with.

I have the GAZ Gold Pro on mine and I'm very happy with them. You can't just say you've tried them and didn't like them though as you can specify your own spring rates. Mine has F400/R300 lb/ft springs which is great for a track setup while still being comfortable on the road. You can go up to F500/R400 and down to F250/R200 (or higher/lower if you really want to) so one car with GGP might feel completely different to another.
